Why Privacy and Security in Cyberspace Important?
·
Cyberspace - refers
to the virtual computer world, and more specifically, an electronic medium that
is used to facilitate online communication.
·
Privacy – the state
of being free from public
attention.
· Security – the state of being free from danger or threat.
In this 21st century, the online world or the
so called “cyberspace” has been the avenue for communication, collaboration, or
even in just mere catch up. The perks it offers have been widely utilized
amidst the pandemic. In terms of education, business, and transactions; it has
been done online. Now, we are limited to go in open space. The cyberspace has
really been the cloud where we continue our lives.
Privacy is the state of being free from public attention.
All of us want some parts of us to be private, especially, our personal
details. In the online world, we are given an option of which information only
to show in our profiles. Whether we show our names or emails or we keep it
private. The privacy options should always be part of any online websites or
social media platform because protecting one’s privacy will avoid us from
possible threats, such as thief of information.
It is the goal of Information Technology to protect its
users, websites, devices, and its line. Before creating anything accessible
online, it is assured that there is security measures done in order to protect
the space. The threat actors are already thought of to avoid possible dilemma.
In cyberspace, we can do anything. With the availability
of devices, literally, we can post or divulge information easily. We can even
post information and the view options depends on how we set it, whether
private, close friends, or public. It is scary how some people take advantage
online. Theft of information, internet fraud, cyberextortion, theft of
financial data; are only a few cybercrimes that can happen online. The
consequences can be saddening if any of these happens just because we don’t have
privacy and security.
I personally believe that privacy and security should be strengthened in the cyberspace. In the virtual world, we don’t know who’s accessing what. The diversity of users opens the vulnerability to risks and dangers. As to the developers, it is their job to protect us, users, to any possible crime. Our personal information should always be privately protected and personal emails or messages should be encrypted. Now that online transaction has been the new thing, then the cyberspace contributors or developers should build more firm and concrete cybersecurity and privacy. It is not just the job of developers to offer safety. As a responsible user, we should also think beforehand and be smart enough to show which information will not cause any trouble.
